first_imgSign up for our COVID-19 newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest coronavirus news throughout New York Andrew SchreierA teenager has been accused of flashing a badge and what appeared to be a handgun at another driver while impersonating a police officer during a road-rage confrontation in Elmont on Monday afternoon.Nassau County police said Andrew Schreier was driving on Elmont Road when he pulled alongside a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man, rolled his window down and flashed a gold badge at 3 p.m.“I’m a cop, and I’ll give you tickets,” the 19-year-old Elmont man allegedly yelled at the victim before pointing the weapon at the other driver and the victim’s 47-year-old passenger, according to police.The victims called 911, followed Schreier into a dead end and led responding officers to him with the help of a neighbor, police said.Schreier was found to have glass bottle in his shoe that contained a substance believed to be MDMA, the active intoxicant in the club drug ecstasy.The gun that he allegedly menaced the victims with turned out to be a black airsoft pistol, which investigators also recovered, police said. The badge he flashed was from the U.S. Postal Police, Nassau police said.The teen was also in possession of a forged New Jersey license, a forged Department of Homeland Security photo identification and two Federation of Postal Police photo IDs, police said.Schreier was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, forgery, criminal impersonation, menacing and possession of a dangerous weapon. Cold wave continues in Kashmir; night temperature increases

first_imgLeh and Kargil districts in the frontier region of Ladakh continued to be the coldest places in Jammu and Kashmir, even as night temperature showed steady improvement in most parts of the Valley for the third day on Sunday.Both Leh and Kargil towns recorded a minimum of minus 13.0 degrees Celsius each, compared to 13.6 and 10.4 deg C the previous night, respectively, a MET department official said.Srinagar witnessed a slight increase with the minimum temperature settling at minus 0.1 deg C as against minus 0.4 deg C on Saturday, the official said.The night temperature is almost two degrees above normal for this time of the year.Meanwhile, the Jammu-Srinagar National highway, the only road link between Kashmir Valley and rest of the country, was on Sunday thrown open to one-way traffic after remaining closed overnight due to fresh snowfall.The famous hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley, recording a low of minus 9.0 deg C, while Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 7.7 deg C, the official said.The high altitude areas of the Valley including Pahalgam and Gulmarg received light snowfall over the past two days, much to the delight of winter sports lovers.The night temperature at Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir, fell further to settle at minus 2.0 deg C.Kokernag town in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district recorded minus 3.2 deg C.Kupwara town in north Kashmir, also recorded a night temperature of minus 0.1 degrees Celsius – the same as recorded in Srinagar.advertisementThe Kashmir Valley is in the grip of an intense cold wave as it witnesses forty days of harsh winter, locally called ‘Chillai Kalaan’.While Kashmir witnessed early snowfall of winter in October, there was a two-month dry spell which ended with another snowfall on New Year’s eve.With PTI inputslast_img read more

Just one season removed from a berth in the 2010 NCAA College Cup — the Final Four of college soccer — Ohio State women’s soccer saw its 2011 Big Ten tournament run come crashing down Wednesday after a first-round loss to No. 2-seed Illinois. With the scored tied after 90 minutes, 1-1, No. 7-seed OSU forced the contest to penalty kicks after two scoreless overtime periods. The Illini dispatched the Buckeyes in penalty kicks, 4-2, at Northwestern’s Lakeside Field to advance. In what may have been her final game in Scarlet and Gray, OSU senior forward Paige Maxwell put the Buckeyes up, 1-0, in the 16th minute. The goal was the fourth of the year for Maxwell. Illinois outshot OSU, 8-3, in the first half and prevented the Buckeyes from getting to halftime with its slim advantage intact. Illini sophomore midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo tied the game in 41st minute with a free-kick goal. Wednesday’s match was a physical one — referee Miguel Panduro Jr. called 40 total fouls in the contest — but the bumping and tackling ended after the teams remained scoreless the second half and two 10-minute overtime sessions.
