UNLUCKY THIRTEEN FOR HARPS AS UNBEATEN RUN ENDS AWAY TO ATHLONE

first_imgSOCCER: Finn Harps incredible unbeaten run in the Airtricity First Division has come to an abrupt end tonight against fourth-placed Athlone Town. A 69th minute strike from Marco Chindea proved decisive in a game where there were very few chances for either side.Alan Matthews has improved Athlone significantly since taking over the reins after leaving Bray Wanderers and it was key three points for his side.It leave his outfit just three points off the play-off spots but there still a massive TEN points behind league leaders Harps. Harps went TWELVE games unbeaten which was an incredible feat but as the saying goes ‘All good things must come to an end’ and in the 13th game of the season that’s exactly what happened. However, Wexford lost the opportunity to make up ground on Harps by losing 3-2 at home to Shelbourne.UCD closed the gap between themselves and Harps to six points and are showing signs they’re in for the long haul as they look to bounce right back into the Premier Division.Wexford remain seven points behind Harps but have a game in hand and also face Harps next weekend in a crucial clash next week at Finn Park which also represents the halfway point in the season. Just eight points separates the top four and it promises to go right down to the wire this season.Harps remain top by six points and if Ollie Horgan was offered to be in this position at this stage of the season prior to the campaign he would’ve have taken your hand off.UNLUCKY THIRTEEN FOR HARPS AS UNBEATEN RUN ENDS AWAY TO ATHLONE was last modified: June 5th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Athlone TownFinn Harps FCHome-page Sportnewssoccerlast_img read more
