Atom Flyers snatch championship from host team

first_imgAfter victories in their first three games, Fort St. John found themselves face to face with the host team, the Fairview Kings, with the winner walking away as tournament champions. Fairview opened the scoring early in the first period. Luckily, the goal didn’t discourage the Atom Flyers, as three minutes later, Flyer’s Nathan Brownlee fought his way through the Kings defense, scoring the game tying goal. With the second period starting with the teams tied at 1-1, Fort St. John would take their first of the lead of the game only a minute into the second frame. Devon Minard entered the offensive zone with speed, flying past the Fairview defence and letting go a hard wrist shot to give the Atom Flyers a 2-1 lead.- Advertisement – Minard’s goal would be the eventual championship winning goal for Fort St. John. Fort St. John would increase their lead to two in the second, thanks to a Brophy Dunne breakaway goal. Dunne, one-on-one with the goalie, deked out the Fairview tender to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead. That score that would remain on the scoreboard until the conclusion of the game, earning the Flyers the championship trophy to bring home with them.last_img read more
