The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) today announced that it will withdraw from the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) on a national question.JHU leader and government Minister Champika Ranawaka made the announcement at a press briefing today. The Minister said that the decision was taken as the government had failed to repeal the 13th Amendment to the constitution ahead of the Northern Provincial Council elections. The JHU had wanted the 13th Amendment to be repealed ahead of the polls fearing of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) wins the election it will use the 13th Amendment to divide the country. He said that the government has only looked at removing two clauses in the 13th Amendment to the constitution while the PSC is looking at the other clauses. However he says the JHU has decided to withdraw from the PSC as it is dragging its feet on looking at those clauses and amending them.
