first_imgSolskjaer excited to lead Man Utd at Old Trafford for first timeby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits it will be a special moment when he leads the team against Huddersfield at Old Trafford tomorrow.Solskjaer’s managerial stint is off to a fabulous start with the 5-1 victory at Cardiff City last weekend. He said, “Of course, you try to keep your emotions in check. I’m there to do a job, I’ve got to be focused. It’s not easy, I don’t think it will be easy but I’m looking forward to it. I think the boys are looking forward to playing at Old Trafford. That’s the key. We should be looking forward to playing there. I was sat next to Rene Meulensteen as a coach in a Reserves-team game there once, and I was there with Cardiff, but, of course, it will be special.”You can never set the bar too high. They [the players] are setting the standards. The players that play for this club, they’ve got high standards to live up to and, Saturday, it was not like they’ve outperformed themselves because you cannot outperform yourself. We want to look at this game, evaluate and look at a few clips. We can be better, we can understand each other better, so it will be good.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgCrystal Palace invite prospective purchasersby Ian Ferris21 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveCrystal Palace have been put up for sale as part of a deal that would value the Premier League club at UK£210 million (US$258 million),according to City AM, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.The business newspaper claims to have seen a document intended for prospective buyers offering to facilitate the purchase of at least 75 per cent and up to 90 per cent of the club for either a single buyer or consortium. The document, which was apparently drawn up by Zenith Global Capital Partners rather than Palace themselves, reportedly says the club would be sold-debt free and have a projected valuation of UK£525 million (US$645 million) by year three and UK£700 million (US$860 million) by year five.It has been widely reported this year that Palace’s American owners, Joshua Harris and David Blitzer, are looking to sell their stake in the club just three years after investing in the team. However, City AM’s report added that Steve Parish, Palace’s long-serving chairman and minority owner, is open to remaining at the club but would be willing to dilute his 18 per cent stake. ‘Tierney is a lot better than Monreal’

first_imgArsenal target Kieran Tierney is already “a lot better” than Nacho Monreal, says Kevin Gallacher, with the Celtic defender boasting the potential to be “a bargain” for the Gunners. The Gunners are said to have identified the Scotland international left-back as a top target for the summer transfer window. An opening bid of around £15 million ($19m) has received short shrift, with that offer branded an “embarrassment” and “pittance” for a player of Tierney’s undoubted ability. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? It has been suggested that a second approach is being readied at Emirates Stadium, with Unai Emery seeking to bring in players that will improve his side in the present and continue to develop in the future.Former Scotland star Gallacher believes Tierney meets those criteria, telling The Herald: “Kieran can definitely cope with a move to Arsenal.“He is a quality player. A team like Arsenal play football. I think it will suit Kieran and the way he plays – he is an attacking full-back. That is a strength of his.“At the moment, they have got Monreal playing full-back. I think Kieran is a lot better than him.“Arsenal scouts have obviously been watching him very closely over a period of time and their analysts have looked at different aspects of his play. They clearly believe he will fit in to the system that they play.“If Kieran goes down there, stays patient and grasps his opportunity with both hands when he gets it then the sky is the limit for him.“He isn’t stupid. He will have seen what Andy Robertson did at Liverpool. If he takes a leaf out of Andy’s book he will do well.”Unai Emery Arsenal 2018-19Arsenal are facing up to another season without Champions League football, having finished fifth in the Premier League last season and lost in the Europa League final, but Gallacher sees signs of progress in north London.A man who tasted title glory in England with Blackburn added: “I saw a fair bit of them last season and thought their style did change a little bit.“They weren’t trying to walk the ball into the net as much. They were trying different strategies to attack and get that ball into the final third.“But the players they have got are phenomenal. They have a fantastic squad, they just have to believe in each other and take it to the next level. I think you will see an improvement next season.“Emery has been in there for a season, he understands the club, he understands the players and their qualities. All he needs is strength in depth and more consistency to get the team further up the table. He will know that and will be trying to bridge the gap.“They have been in the top five for England for the last 25 years and are more than capable of staying there. It is a big ask for Arsenal to get the players who can help them do that. But I think Kieran Tierney would be a bargain.”last_img read more

John Schnatter: Louisville ‘Not Being Honest’ After Stadium Name Decision

(Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)John Schnatter, and not Papa John’s Pizza, purchased naming rights for Louisville football’s “Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.” On Friday, the school’s president said that Schnatter supports taking “Papa John’s” off of the name, in light of the recent scandal stemming from his use of the n-word during a conference call.President Neeli Bendapudi held a press conference, and said that she had decided to go through with the name change. She also said that she spoke to Schnatter about the issue, and that he apologized and gave the name change his blessing. The Papa John’s founder has been back on the offensive in recent days. On Friday, he spoke to WLKY about various issues, and said that Louisville hasn’t been honest about their dealings.Via the Courier-Journal:John Schnatter said he didn’t know the University of Louisville was dropping “Papa John’s” from the football stadium’s name until Friday’s announcement was made by U of L President Neeli Bendapudi.[…]“No, that wasn’t true,” Schnatter told WLKY. “The administration said I apologized. I think I need to apologize to the players and to the students and to the faculty. But I never apologized for taking the name down. I never knew about it. I knew they were taking a look at it, but they told me they’d wait over for the weekend. So that was not true.”John Schnatter, who stepped down from the Louisville Board of Trustees two days ago, says that the school is “not being honest.”“I worked on this board for two years,” Schnatter told WLKY. “I said, ‘Hey, let’s play it straight. Let’s put the cards on the table. Let’s be transparent. Clean business is good business.’ And I’m gone two days, and they’re already caving. They’re already not being honest. That’s been disappointing.”Asked by WLKY if he would fight his name being taken off the stadium, Schnatter didn’t give a definitive answer, saying “I just found out about it.”Considering this whole incident stems from cascading public relations disasters, the move for Schnatter is probably not to fight this too much, especially given players’ and fans’ desire for the stadium name to change. He has also gone after the NFL and Roger Goodell again in the last few days, so it doesn’t seem like he’s ready to give up the limelight.[WLKY; Courier-Journal]last_img read more

Xiaomi Redmi Go quick review: Affordable and seems apt for first-time smartphone buyers

first_img Sneha Saha New DelhiMarch 19, 2019UPDATED: March 22, 2019 08:11 IST HIGHLIGHTSThe Xiaomi Redmi Go debuts at a price of Rs 4,499 in India. The Redmi Go is the cheapest phone Xiaomi has ever launched in India so far.The Redmi Go serves all basic requirements most first-time phone users may have.Xiaomi has partnered with Google to launch its first Android Go smartphone aka Redmi Go. The phone was launched by Xiaomi in India on Tuesday at an event in New Delhi. This is a very important phone, and although it debuts at a price of Rs 4,499 that seems fairly close to the regular Android smartphones, given that this is a Xiaomi phone it is bound to be noticed by millions of people in India who might be looking to move away from their feature phone to their first smartphone. For people looking to buy an affordable first smartphone, or even people who just want to buy a functional smartphone without spending too much money, the Redmi Go could be the best option. The Redmi Go is the cheapest phone Xiaomi has launched in India so far. Until now this distinction belonged to the Redmi 5A and the Redmi 6A. Xiaomi’s first Android Go phone will go on sale for the first time in India on March 22 on Flipkart, Mi Home store and Mi.com. With the Redmi Go, Xiaomi is targeting the first-time smartphone users in India and also aiming to move users from a feature phone, which continues to be in vogue even in 2019. Over here at India Today Tech, I spent some time with the Redmi Go.With the Redmi Go, Xiaomi is basically aiming to take on the likes of other Android Go phones like Nokia 1, Samsung Galaxy J2 Core and as well as the JioPhone 2, which is cheaper and has a good hold on the consumers who are looking to buy a smartphone but don’t want to spend Rs 7,000 or even Rs 5,000 on such device.advertisementIf you’re looking for a premium looking smartphone that is big on specs, the Redmi Go is definitely not meant for you. But if you’re looking to switch to a smartphone from a feature phone or looking for a secondary device which is easy to use and could be reliable, I believe that Redmi Go is a good option for you to consider at Rs 4,499. The Redmi Go serves all basic requirements most first-time phone users may have. The Redmi Go comes with a 5-inch HD display, decent design, 3000mAh battery, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, camera on both front and back, among other things. The Redmi Go supports 20+ language support, and also allows users to use Google Assistant in English, Hindi and Hinglish. One of the best things about the Redmi Go is that its lightweight. The Redmi Go feels extremely light in the hands and is also very sleek, which usually isn’t the case with phones this cheap. For example, the Redmi 5A and also the Redmi 6A – which are pricier than the Redmi Go — are fairly bulky devices. All in all, I believe, the Redmi Go has the perfect size and fits perfectly in the hands, especially for people with small hands, like me.The Redmi Go runs Google’s Android Go program based on Android Oreo – yes, sadly no Android Pie for this Go phone. Also, while the software in the Redmi Go has the usual stock Android interface, there are a number of apps bundled with it. The phone ships bundled with several third-party apps like Amazon shopping, Mint Browser, Facebook Lite, Mi Community, Mi Drop, among others. Being an Android Go phone the Redmi Go comes packed with all Go or “lite” versions (which is smaller in size and hence eat up much lesser mobile data) of Google’s apps like Gmail Go, YouTube Go, Chrome Go and others. In India, the Redmi Go is going to be available in two colours – black and blue — and both look pretty good. I’m using the blue one. Overall, I’m particularly impressed with the design and the display of the Redmi Go. The screen of the phone on the first impression seems bright in both outdoor and indoor conditions. The Redmi Go sports a 5-inch HD display with resolution of 1280×720 and aspect ratio of 16:9. One feature that I’m glad to see in the Redmi Go is Night display mode. Even though the price is relatively affordable, the Redmi Go is a phone that comes with decent hardware. The Redmi Go includes a single camera on the back and front. On the rear panel, the phone has an 8MP camera, paired with LED flash while on the front the Redmi Go includes a 5MP selfie shooter. I clicked some pictures with the Redmi Go in bright sunlight and also in indoors and overall I feel both the front and back camera of the phone does a good job. The pictures aren’t very detailed or capture great colours but they look decent, at least that is the impression I get from the pictures clicked in the low light.advertisementFor example, see these images clicked with the Redmi Go. And do keep in mind that a phone with a price of Rs 4,499 clicked them.IMAGE SAMPLESI’m yet to test the overall performance of the Redmi Go or its battery backup. I will talk about these aspects in details in the full review of the phone in the upcoming days. The Redmi Go is powered by Qualcomm Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 chipset, paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage that can be expanded with up to 128GB microSD card. It is great to see a phone this cheap to come with dual SIM support. The Redmi Go comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual microphones, bottom speaker grills and microSD port for charging. Inside, it has a big 3000mAh battery that Xiaomi claims can offer up to 12 hours of call time, 78 hours of music playback and 5 hours of video playback. We will talk about the Redmi Go and my more detailed experience with Xiaomi’s cheapest phone in India yet in our full review in the days to come. They can become the first team to qualify for playoffs with just 12 points in the IPL history provided both KXIP and KKR lose.If Kolkata Knight Riders, who are on 12 points from 13 matches with a Net Run Rate of +0.173, beat Mumbai Indians, they will knock Sunrisers Hyderabad out. However, if Kolkata Knight Riders lose at the Wankhede Stadium, see Sunrisers Hyderabad will most likely seal the berth on the basis of a better net run rate. Also Read | IPL 2019: Another no-ball controversy and Virat Kohli is frustratedAlso Read | IPL 2019: Rishabh Pant breaks Virender Sehwag record for Delhi CapitalsAlso Read | IPL 2019: Rahane promises to come back stronger in 2020 after disappointing seasonFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. But CSK will be happy to return to their den to take on table-toppers Mumbai Indians (MI), probably their biggest IPL rival, to decide which team seals the first spot in the May 12 final.CSK boast of a tremendous record at home this season, winning 6 of their 7 games at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and tonight, it will act as a big advantage for the hosts. Billed as the ‘El Clasico’ of the IPL, we are certain to witness another blockbuster clash tonight at the Chepauk. Here are a few stats that matter as the teams head for the all important Qualifier 1 in Chennai:- Saying that the Chepauk is CSK’s fortress isn’t an overstatement. In their last 23 matches at home, CSK have won 19!- But CSK will be vary of MI as they are the only team to have a positive head-to-head record against CSK in the history of IPL – 15:11- 3 of CSK’s last 4 defeats at the MA Chidambaram Stadium have come against Rohit Sharma’s side. Anil Kumble hopes to see more Indians like Yuvraj Singh in T20 leagues

first_imgAnil Kumble hopes to see more Indians like Yuvraj Singh in T20 leagues Yuvraj Singh got the BCCI clearance to play in Canada’s Global T20 League. Anil Kumble, who is the chairman of ICC Cricket Committee, said Indian players participating in global leagues will improve their following, considering the fandom India cricketers enjoy.advertisement Indo-Asian News Service New DelhiJuly 19, 2019UPDATED: July 19, 2019 20:43 IST World Cup-winning former India all-rounder retired from international cricket earlier this year (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSYuvraj Singh got the BCCI clearance to feature in Canada’s Global T20 LeagueAnil Kumble expects the BCCI to give NOCs to more players in the futureFor me the development of cricket in this region is what attracted me: Kumble on association with Euro T20 SlamWith the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) making an exception for Yuvraj Singh and giving him permission to play in the Global T20, the doors have been opened and former India skipper and coach Anil Kumble believes that having Indian players in the new T20 leagues is an immense boost not just for the growth of the leagues, but also for the youngsters who ply their trade in those leagues.Speaking to IANS on the sidelines of the Euro T20 Slam draft on Friday, Kumble — a board member of the advisory committee — said that Yuvraj getting permission was a big boost and hopefully more players would get NOC from the board to play in various T20 leagues apart from the Indian Premier League.”Yes, I feel that is something the BCCI will look at, but currently there are certain restrictions. But having said that, you know people like Yuvi have got the permission to go and play (in Global T20). So, I don’t see any issue if some of these players want to go and play, but the BCCI will have to give them NOC. At this point in time, it is good to have someone like Yuvi play in the leagues and in the future you will perhaps see more players from India participating in the leagues,” he said.Asked how having experienced Indian players would help the leagues, Kumble said: “One is to get the experience of the player in the league and the second is the following that the Indian player has back home and that is massive. Any player from India gets massive support, the Indian team gets massive support across the world. So, the following of the league and their heroes is massive. And in that sense it is a big moment if any Indian player plays in these leagues. Yuvi playing in different leagues apart from the IPL will be followed as well.”advertisementKumble reveals reason for association with Euro T20 SlamKumble says the reason why he decided to be associated with the Euro T20 Slam is the fact that Ireland is a Full Member now and has Test status and this league would help develop the game in the Europe region.”For me the development of cricket in this region is what attracted me. I know there are a lot of T20 leagues that have cropped up, but I feel the development of Europe and Ireland being a Full Member now and having Test status is something that attracted me,” he explained.Kumble feels T20 is the format that helps bring in new people to the game. “I think that is something people want to see, we have seen over different competitions. Also, the closeness of competing against the tougher teams so to speak is a lot narrower and the difference between teams is very narrow. So, you will also see the odd result that doesn’t go as per expectation. That is why I feel this format is something that helps in growing the game.”It is a great platform for exchange of ideas and talent. For any youngster across the globe to get to interact with the icons is a blessing and to rub shoulders with them. Also for teams like Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands, it is as good as gold. The youngsters will benefit from playing against and with the icons. To know how the experienced campaigners adapt to certain situations, you cannot learn that from coaches,” he pointed. Also Read | Triple H presents World Cup winning England team customised WWE Championship beltAlso Read | MS Dhoni has no immediate plans to retire, says longtime friendAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Then through the day you do things and sort of get on with your life,” Virat Kohli told the press on the eve of the 1st T20I.Kohli added: “We are professionals. We move ahead. Every team has to move on.”So we are quite okay with what happened in the World Cup. Yesterday the fielding session and the little bit of time we spent on the field was really good. I think that’s the best thing you can do as a team, just get on the park as soon as possible.”advertisementThe India captain, who will be without the services of some of the established stars including Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni, also said the West Indies tour is a good opportunity for youngsters to step up and grab their opportunities.India will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs before starting their World Test Championships campaign against the West Indies later this month. And according to your team’s strength, and how a player is performing in different conditions, this is what we’re trying to figure ou,” Kohli said.”It’s a very normal process in cricket at this level that whatever games you have, you use it to build towards that global tournament,” he added. Also Read | West Indies vs India, 1st T20I: Distractions aside, Virat Kohli’s men look to build a team for the futureAlso Read | MS Dhoni’s absence great opportunity for Rishabh Pant to become a consistent performer: Virat KohliAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
