first_imgSolskjaer excited to lead Man Utd at Old Trafford for first timeby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits it will be a special moment when he leads the team against Huddersfield at Old Trafford tomorrow.Solskjaer’s managerial stint is off to a fabulous start with the 5-1 victory at Cardiff City last weekend. He said, “Of course, you try to keep your emotions in check. I’m there to do a job, I’ve got to be focused. It’s not easy, I don’t think it will be easy but I’m looking forward to it. I think the boys are looking forward to playing at Old Trafford. That’s the key. We should be looking forward to playing there. I was sat next to Rene Meulensteen as a coach in a Reserves-team game there once, and I was there with Cardiff, but, of course, it will be special.”You can never set the bar too high. They [the players] are setting the standards. The players that play for this club, they’ve got high standards to live up to and, Saturday, it was not like they’ve outperformed themselves because you cannot outperform yourself. We want to look at this game, evaluate and look at a few clips. We can be better, we can understand each other better, so it will be good.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgCrystal Palace invite prospective purchasersby Ian Ferris21 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveCrystal Palace have been put up for sale as part of a deal that would value the Premier League club at UK£210 million (US$258 million),according to City AM, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.The business newspaper claims to have seen a document intended for prospective buyers offering to facilitate the purchase of at least 75 per cent and up to 90 per cent of the club for either a single buyer or consortium. The document, which was apparently drawn up by Zenith Global Capital Partners rather than Palace themselves, reportedly says the club would be sold-debt free and have a projected valuation of UK£525 million (US$645 million) by year three and UK£700 million (US$860 million) by year five.It has been widely reported this year that Palace’s American owners, Joshua Harris and David Blitzer, are looking to sell their stake in the club just three years after investing in the team. However, City AM’s report added that Steve Parish, Palace’s long-serving chairman and minority owner, is open to remaining at the club but would be willing to dilute his 18 per cent stake. ‘Tierney is a lot better than Monreal’

first_imgArsenal target Kieran Tierney is already “a lot better” than Nacho Monreal, says Kevin Gallacher, with the Celtic defender boasting the potential to be “a bargain” for the Gunners. The Gunners are said to have identified the Scotland international left-back as a top target for the summer transfer window. An opening bid of around £15 million ($19m) has received short shrift, with that offer branded an “embarrassment” and “pittance” for a player of Tierney’s undoubted ability. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? It has been suggested that a second approach is being readied at Emirates Stadium, with Unai Emery seeking to bring in players that will improve his side in the present and continue to develop in the future.Former Scotland star Gallacher believes Tierney meets those criteria, telling The Herald: “Kieran can definitely cope with a move to Arsenal.“He is a quality player. A team like Arsenal play football. I think it will suit Kieran and the way he plays – he is an attacking full-back. That is a strength of his.“At the moment, they have got Monreal playing full-back. I think Kieran is a lot better than him.“Arsenal scouts have obviously been watching him very closely over a period of time and their analysts have looked at different aspects of his play. They clearly believe he will fit in to the system that they play.“If Kieran goes down there, stays patient and grasps his opportunity with both hands when he gets it then the sky is the limit for him.“He isn’t stupid. He will have seen what Andy Robertson did at Liverpool. If he takes a leaf out of Andy’s book he will do well.”Unai Emery Arsenal 2018-19Arsenal are facing up to another season without Champions League football, having finished fifth in the Premier League last season and lost in the Europa League final, but Gallacher sees signs of progress in north London.A man who tasted title glory in England with Blackburn added: “I saw a fair bit of them last season and thought their style did change a little bit.“They weren’t trying to walk the ball into the net as much. They were trying different strategies to attack and get that ball into the final third.“But the players they have got are phenomenal. They have a fantastic squad, they just have to believe in each other and take it to the next level. I think you will see an improvement next season.“Emery has been in there for a season, he understands the club, he understands the players and their qualities. All he needs is strength in depth and more consistency to get the team further up the table. He will know that and will be trying to bridge the gap.“They have been in the top five for England for the last 25 years and are more than capable of staying there. It is a big ask for Arsenal to get the players who can help them do that. But I think Kieran Tierney would be a bargain.”last_img read more

John Schnatter: Louisville ‘Not Being Honest’ After Stadium Name Decision

(Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)John Schnatter, and not Papa John’s Pizza, purchased naming rights for Louisville football’s “Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.” On Friday, the school’s president said that Schnatter supports taking “Papa John’s” off of the name, in light of the recent scandal stemming from his use of the n-word during a conference call.President Neeli Bendapudi held a press conference, and said that she had decided to go through with the name change. She also said that she spoke to Schnatter about the issue, and that he apologized and gave the name change his blessing. The Papa John’s founder has been back on the offensive in recent days. On Friday, he spoke to WLKY about various issues, and said that Louisville hasn’t been honest about their dealings.Via the Courier-Journal:John Schnatter said he didn’t know the University of Louisville was dropping “Papa John’s” from the football stadium’s name until Friday’s announcement was made by U of L President Neeli Bendapudi.[…]“No, that wasn’t true,” Schnatter told WLKY. “The administration said I apologized. I think I need to apologize to the players and to the students and to the faculty. But I never apologized for taking the name down. I never knew about it. I knew they were taking a look at it, but they told me they’d wait over for the weekend. So that was not true.”John Schnatter, who stepped down from the Louisville Board of Trustees two days ago, says that the school is “not being honest.”“I worked on this board for two years,” Schnatter told WLKY. “I said, ‘Hey, let’s play it straight. Let’s put the cards on the table. Let’s be transparent. Clean business is good business.’ And I’m gone two days, and they’re already caving. They’re already not being honest. That’s been disappointing.”Asked by WLKY if he would fight his name being taken off the stadium, Schnatter didn’t give a definitive answer, saying “I just found out about it.”Considering this whole incident stems from cascading public relations disasters, the move for Schnatter is probably not to fight this too much, especially given players’ and fans’ desire for the stadium name to change. He has also gone after the NFL and Roger Goodell again in the last few days, so it doesn’t seem like he’s ready to give up the limelight.[WLKY; Courier-Journal]last_img read more
